Face massage has a preventive effect. Its main purpose is to keep the skin and muscles supple and prevent wrinkles. Facial massage uses gradation of movements from gentle, introducing to stronger and stronger ones, up to the climax, after which the intensity of the massage gradually decreases. Such a massage gives a feeling of slight warming up and relaxation, the face becomes calmer, as if smoothed. The intensity of the massage, its duration, number and type of movements depend on the elasticity of the skin, the degree of muscle tension, the thickness of the fat bed and the thickness of the skin.
The massage performed directly affects the tissues that are massaged, and the movements cause reddening of the skin, stimulation of circulation, and expansion of blood vessels. This results in better oxygenation of the tissue, as the arterial blood supply to the massaged areas increases. The massage slightly exfoliates the stratum corneum, making it easier for the skin to breathe and faster absorption of the preparations used. The mechanism of irritation of the upper layers of the skin stimulates their renewal, strengthens the elasticity of the skin and muscles, preventing the formation of wrinkles. In indirect action, facial massage stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems in general, improves the muscles and heart function, and affects the nervous and endocrine systems.
