Causes of skin aging - a decrease in the amount of hormones and free radicals

One of the main causes of skin aging is the decreased production of hormones in the body. Hormones that stimulate physical fitness, the efficiency of the immune system and cell regeneration (including testosterone, melatonin) are produced in large quantities only up to the age of 20. Due to the decline in their levels in the body, the functions of tissues, cells and organs begin to break down. Over the years, the skin has less and less ability to renew itself, and the regeneration time of cells is even doubled. As the sebaceous and sweat glands no longer work as efficiently, the skin's natural acid mantle changes. The skin becomes drier, thinner and, as a result, cannot retain enough moisture and fat.

Another factor influencing skin aging is free radicals - the parts of molecules such as oxygen found in the body. When exposed to external factors such as ultraviolet radiation, nicotine or unhealthy food, free radicals become more prone to react. This means that they are constantly looking for other chemicals with which they could bind and attack the collagen fibers, cell membranes and the skin's lipid layer. Free radicals change the hereditary properties stored in the nucleus of the cell so that the quality of the newly formed skin cells is lowered. The skin protects itself against these aggressors through a system of enzymes, the so-called anti-oxidants, but from the age of 20 these natural defenses gradually weaken, which means that the skin can no longer defend itself.
