A line on the eyelid is a precisely executed line of pigment along the upper or lower eyelid margin, aimed at visually thickening the lash line, enhancing the shape of the eye, and adding expressiveness to the gaze. It can be subtle (known as lash line enhancement) or decorative, resembling a classic eyeliner makeup. It is most commonly performed as a permanent makeup procedure, which involves introducing pigment into the superficial layers of the skin using a sterile needle module. The durability of the effect is time-limited and depends on various factors such as skin type, metabolism, UV exposure, or the pigmentation technique used. The procedure is aesthetic in nature but requires anatomical knowledge, experience, and adherence to strict safety protocols.
Eyeliner on the eyelid – how to do it
Creating an eyeliner line, especially in the form of permanent makeup, is a multi-step procedure that requires precision and knowledge of the anatomy around the eye. The process includes:
- initial consultation – assessment of the eye structure, eyelid skin elasticity, symmetry, and aesthetic expectations,
- selection of technique and pigment – thin lash line, classic decorative line, or shaded variant,
- preliminary drawing – performed in a sitting position to account for the natural drooping of the eyelids,
- local anesthesia – usually in the form of a topical preparation,
- pigmentation – introducing pigment into the epidermis and upper layer of the dermis,
- post-procedure instructions – regarding care, healing, and skin protection.
The procedure usually lasts from 60 to 120 minutes. There may be temporary swelling and redness of the eyelids immediately after the procedure, which subside within a few days.
Eyeliner – how much does it cost
The cost of applying an eyeliner is variable and depends on several important factors:
- scope of the procedure (upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or both),
- type of eyeliner (lash line enhancement vs. decorative liner),
- experience of the specialist and the reputation of the facility,
- quality of the pigments and equipment used,
- need for touch-up pigmentation after healing.
In practice, prices most often range from several hundred to several thousand PLN. It should be noted that a corrective procedure, performed after a few weeks, might be included in the price or charged separately. A price that is too low should raise caution, as the procedure involves a particularly sensitive anatomical area.
Eyelid line – removal procedure
Removing eyeliner from the eyelid is a more complex procedure than applying it and should always be preceded by a thorough clinical evaluation. The most commonly used methods include:
- Laser therapy – breaking down pigment particles with light energy, followed by their removal by the immune system,
- Chemical or mechanical methods – used less frequently due to the risk of irritation and scarring,
- Gradual lightening – in the case of very superficial pigmentation.
Laser procedures require special caution, eye protection, and operator experience. The removal process is staged and may require several sessions at intervals of several weeks. Complete pigment removal is not always possible, especially with deep or repeatedly corrected eyeliner.
Permanent eyeliner treatments
Permanent eyeliner procedures include various pigmentation techniques tailored to the anatomy of the eye and the desired effect. The most commonly used ones are:
- eyelash line enhancement – a very thin line of pigment between the lashes, giving a natural effect,
- classic upper eyeliner – a more pronounced line emphasizing the shape of the eye,
- lower eyeliner – applied sparingly, mainly to visually balance the makeup,
- shaded eyeliner – creates a subtle gradient effect.
Each technique requires individual planning, considering facial expressions, eyelid mobility, and skin aging processes. From a medical standpoint, maintaining asepsis, proper patient qualification, and realistic assessment of aesthetic possibilities are crucial.
