Tamponade is a very important element of correction treatment of ingrown nails. Tamponade involves the placement of a soft dressing material impregnated with an antiseptic or antibiotic fluid in the proximal nail fold. This dressing broadens the space between the nail plate and the nail fold. In the case of inflammation, the tamponade absorbs exudate and sebum from the nail shaft. After sufficient training, the patient can apply such dressing independently at home.
