In medicine cellulite is gynoid lipodystrophy - not to be confused with cellulitis. It affects subcutaneous tissue and is a physiological phenomenon. The anatomical cause lies in the structure of the female body. Collagen fibers in women are arranged vertically - when adipocytes enlarge, they push upward, creating an uneven skin surface.
