Boom in aesthetic medicine - trend or awareness? [opinion piece]
Various trends are most often created by celebrities or nowadays also by influencers, who often have even larger reach than famous celebrities. However, people, especially women, have been striving to take care of their appearance for centuries. Only the means and beauty standards have changed. Can aesthetic medicine be called a trend? I would rather say that it is a response to the eternal need for beauty.
People have their authorities in various fields and when we talk about celebrities, they are a kind of authority in image matters. We often admire them for their talents, and a good image only deepens the adoration from fans. Due to PR reasons, they must take strong care of their appearance, and any "flaw" is heavily commented on by the media. That is why celebrities have been benefiting from the advantages of aesthetic medicine and technology for years.
We are lucky to live in times when modern technology is becoming more and more accessible, and we have increasing knowledge about how it works. Thanks to this, we know that, for example, radio waves will cause shrinkage of collagen fibers, not that suddenly our body will become a radio receiver and the latest hit list will start playing in our ears. At the same time, we are aware that aesthetic medicine procedures often improve not only beauty but also cell health. It is this awareness together with knowledge about the processes in our bodies that has made us more willing as a society to use aesthetic medicine clinics.
The issue of getting procedures done has stopped being a taboo topic, and many people openly talk about getting procedures done in a positive light. I believe that the significant influence on this was the development of technology and the possibility of achieving spectacular effects without surgical intervention. Since we are already discussing celebrities, many of them on one hand deny rumors of having plastic surgery, and on the other hand openly talk about using more or less invasive aesthetic medicine procedures, such as fractional lasers, HIFU, or Intraceuticals.
The variety and availability of these types of procedures have demystified aesthetic medicine. Although it is a process that is ongoing and will continue for a long time, already available procedures allow women to satisfy their needs, whether they want to intervene more in their bodies, for example, using ablative lasers, or prefer more natural methods of rejuvenation, such as stimulating natural processes in the body through treatments like Beauty Tek.
Therefore, when choosing an aesthetic medicine clinic, it is worth choosing one that is not just another "mushroom after the rain," but one that was created with these women in mind, who are aware of the processes occurring in their bodies related to aging and want to effectively counteract them, and even reverse them.
Małgorzata Gmińska-Śliwowska, the founder and CEO of the Ambasada Urody network of clinics in Warsaw, says about her network: "I am glad that aesthetic medicine is becoming so popular. However, my goal was never to create a trendy place. Ambasada Urody was established 15 years ago, and in creating it, I wanted to create a professional and trustworthy place. So that every woman could benefit from treatments performed with the highest quality equipment and products. And these 15 years have shown me that it is possible to create such a place. A place where aesthetic medicine procedures are carried out in a pleasant and safe atmosphere, and every patient feels special."
Aesthetic medicine - a scientific achievement in the fight against aging. Currently, it is becoming increasingly popular due to the rise in awareness, and hopefully, it will not be just a passing trend because it allows everyone to feel better in their own bodies. It is worth using it wisely, and it should never be taboo again. Because everyone has the right to take care of their appearance and well-being.
