Swelling is a symptom, not a "beauty" trait. In practice, it means excessive accumulation of fluid in the tissues, which results in a feeling of heaviness, tension, pain, and a noticeable increase in circumference (most often around the ankles and calves). The occurrence of swelling is related to the retention of additional water volume in the body, and its causes can be both simple (prolonged standing, sedentary lifestyle) and those requiring medical diagnosis.
Swelling can be caused by impaired kidney function, heart failure, hormonal disorders, obstruction of blood and lymph flow from the subcutaneous tissue, as well as allergies and inflammatory reactions. Therefore, in the treatment of swelling, it is not about "one procedure" but a properly tailored plan that improves venous and lymphatic circulation, stabilizes tissues, and limits the recurrence of the problem.
Swelling is an issue that should not be treated solely from an aesthetic perspective — because it is a disorder of tissue function and the circulatory/lymphatic system.
HOW WE WORK WITH SWELLINGS AT THE BEAUTY EMBASSY?
At the Uroda Embassy Clinic & Spa, I combine physiotherapeutic and medical-technological approaches. Depending on the edema profile (duration, pain, fibrosis, vessels, coexisting cellulite, postoperative period), we select therapy from the following groups:
- INDIBA® ELITE NS 448 kHz – tissue biostimulation and regulation, metabolic support, and drainage at the cellular level
- Icoone® Med – precise work on connective tissue, especially for chronic edema and fibrosis
- Endermologie LPG® – mechanical stimulation of circulation and lymphatic drainage, good for water retention and lymphatic edema
- Pressotherapy – compressive lymphatic drainage, support for lymphatic and venous blood flow
- Body Mix RF – combined therapy (RF + vacuum + cryotherapy + IR), particularly recommended for fragile vessels, as it does not promote capillary breakage and even strengthens their structure
The effectiveness of the therapy depends on improved lymphatic system function and the quality of connective tissue. This is achieved through a series of treatments and the proper sequence of technologies, which is crucial in persistent and postoperative edema.
WHAT IS THERAPY AND WHAT PROCESSES DOES IT INITIATE?
Edema occurs when fluid moves from the vessels into the tissues faster than the body can remove it via the venous and lymphatic systems. Over time, endothelial overload, microcirculation disorders, local inflammatory reactions, and deterioration of connective tissue quality (tendency to fibrosis) occur. At that point, "ad hoc" methods cease to be sufficient.
In anti-edema therapy, we intentionally activate processes that restore the proper fluid dynamics in the tissues:
- stimulating lymph flow and activating lymphatic vessels to reduce fluid retention
- improving microcirculation (oxygenation and nourishment of tissues), which reduces congestion and the feeling of tension
- supporting venous return, especially in the lower limbs
- reducing local inflammation, which promotes water retention and deterioration of skin structure
- enhancing cellular metabolism, which is particularly important in post-traumatic and postoperative edema
- working on connective tissue (including fibrosis), as it "holds" the congestion and causes recurrence of the problem
Combined therapy and the sequence of methods are important, and tissues are not overloaded with all techniques in one day — the body needs time for a biological response.
FOR WHOM ARE TREATMENTS FOR SWELLING?
If you notice that swelling returns, worsens throughout the day, or persists for weeks — it's a signal that the body is struggling with fluid drainage. Below are the most common indications we work with.
Indications:
- leg swelling (ankles, lower legs), increasing during the day or after exertion/standing
- sensation of heaviness in the legs, tissue tension, “tightness” of the skin
- water retention and hormonal-related swelling (e.g., PMS, perimenopausal period)
- chronic lymphatic congestion, also with a tendency to fibrosis (harder tissue, poorer elasticity)
- post-traumatic or painful swelling (e.g., after overexertion, injuries), where tissue regeneration is important
- swelling after surgical procedures (with the approval of the attending physician and at the appropriate stage)
- swelling coexisting with cellulite (especially edematous-fibrous) and deterioration of skin quality
- tendency to fragile vessels and vascular problems, where the choice of method matters (e.g., Body Mix)
Finally, it's important: if the swelling is sudden, unilateral, painful, with redness or shortness of breath — this is not a topic for cosmetology, but for urgent diagnostics. In the clinic, we support functional therapy, but we do not replace medicine when symptoms are alarming.
SHORT GUIDE - WHICH TREATMENT TO CHOOSE FOR SWELLING?
Not all swelling is the same. We treat chronic lymphatic congestion differently than postoperative swelling, and differently still from swelling related to cellulite or metabolic disorders. The appropriate choice of therapy determines effectiveness—whether the result will be lasting or only temporary.
Below, we present a practical guide to the treatments available at the Beauty Embassy in Warsaw.
- Icoone® Med – for chronic swelling accompanied by fibrosis.
Best choice for:
→ chronic lymphatic congestion
→ leg swelling with a feeling of heaviness
→ edematous cellulite
→ post-liposuction states
→ tendency to tissue fibrosis
Precise vacuum microstimulation improves microcirculation and lymph flow without overloading the vessels. It is effective where classical drainage is too superficial or insufficient.
If swelling persists for months, this is usually the first choice.
- INDIBA® for the body – when swelling is associated with metabolic disorders and inflammation
Best choice for:
→ post-traumatic swelling
→ swelling after surgical procedures
→ swelling with an inflammatory component
→ slowed tissue regeneration
INDIBA is an advanced regenerative therapy that effectively reduces fat tissue, firms the skin, and accelerates cellular metabolism. Through Proionic® technology, the treatment works deeply, supporting natural processes of lipolysis, lymphatic drainage, and the rebuilding of skin support fibers.
→ Why?
Radiofrequency at 448 kHz improves blood and lymph flow at the cellular level. This solution is especially effective when swelling results from tissue overload and regeneration disorders.
If the swelling is painful and accompanied by inflammation—consider INDIBA®.
- Endermologie LPG® – for swelling with a cellulite and circulation disorder component
Best choice for:
→ leg swelling with cellulite
→ venous circulation disorders
→ water retention with loose skin
→ congestion prevention
Mechanical tissue stimulation improves blood and lymph flow, aids detoxification, and reduces the feeling of heavy legs.
→ Difference from Icoone®:
Endermologie works more globally and intensely, whereas Icoone® is more precise and gentler on connective tissue. For fragile vessels, Icoone® or Body Mix is preferable.
- Pressotherapy (pneumatic drainage) – when the problem is purely lymphatic
Best choice for:
→ lower limb swelling
→ heaviness in the legs after a full day
→ sedentary work style
→ as maintenance therapy after other treatments
Sequential compression improves lymph outflow and reduces fluid retention.
→ Practical note:
Pressotherapy is effective but works mainly symptomatically. It does not release adhesions or significantly affect connective tissue quality. It is best used as part of a combined therapy.
- Body Mix – when vessels are fragile and maximum gentleness is needed
Best choice for:
→ vascular skin
→ tendency to broken capillaries
→ swelling with very sensitive tissue
→ first stage of therapy for individuals with low tolerance to intense stimuli
Body Mix is a gentle form of vacuum stimulation that improves microcirculation without aggressive mechanical impact. It is milder than classic endermologie, making it suitable for individuals with vascular problems.
If the patient has visible telangiectasia and easily reacts with redness—this is a safer alternative.
- Manual lymphatic drainage – when gentleness is needed
Best choice for:
→ fresh swelling
→ very sensitive, vascular skin
→ first stage of postoperative therapy
→ patients requiring very subtle work
This is a physiotherapeutic method with documented effectiveness, especially in the initial phases of swelling. It works slower than medical technologies but is safe and well-tolerated.
If the swelling is fresh—start gently.
- Icoone® + INDIBA® – for chronic swelling with cellulite
Best choice for:
→ edematous-fibrous cellulite
→ established congestion
→ loose skin with a tendency to water retention
Scheme:
→ first INDIBA® (improves metabolism and drainage at the cellular level)
→ after 24–48 hours Icoone® (mechanical enhancement of flow and tissue modeling)
This combination works synergistically—reduces congestion, improves skin tension, and restores proper fluid flow dynamics.
- Combined programs for postoperative swelling
In the case of surgical procedures (liposuction, orthopedic surgeries, cesarean sections), the sequence is crucial:
→ early stage – manual drainage (after doctor's approval)
→ regenerative stage – INDIBA®
→ modeling and anti-adhesion stage – Icoone®
We do not combine all methods in one day. Tissues need time for a biological response.
What to choose?
If the swelling:
→ persists long-term and is accompanied by fibrosis— Icoone®
→ is painful and traumatic— INDIBA®
→ is lymphatic without fibrosis— pressotherapy
→ coexists with cellulite— LPG® or combined therapy
→ occurs with fragile vessels— Body Mix
The biggest mistake is treating swelling solely as an aesthetic issue. It is a tissue function disorder—to restore function, a therapeutic plan is needed, not a single visit.
At the Beauty Embassy, qualification is based on assessing the cause, not the symptom. And this is the key to lasting improvement.
EFFECTS OF ANTI-EDEMA THERAPY
The effects on swelling should be described honestly: some patients experience noticeable relief quickly, but the durability depends on the series, choice of method, and the cause of the problem. Below are the results that realistically come from improved flow, microcirculation, and working on connective tissue.
- Significant reduction of swelling in the ankle and calf area, consequently leading to a decrease in circumference and less "swelling" during the day
- Noticeable reduction of the feeling of heaviness in the legs, tension, and pain associated with fluid retention
- Improvement of lymphatic drainage, which supports the elimination of excess fluids and reduces the tendency to "retain water"
- Enhancement of venous circulation and microcirculation, resulting in better oxygenation of tissues and improvement in their "lightness" and functional comfort
- Reduction of lymphatic stasis and support for tissue detoxification through improved lymph flow (an effect particularly emphasized with Body Mix and pressotherapy)
- Improvement of skin elasticity and quality of connective tissue, which is essential in chronic swelling where the tissue loses elasticity and becomes "heavy"
- Reduction of fibrosis and "hardening" of tissues in persistent swellings (here, the choice of method and working on connective tissue, e.g., Icoone, is particularly important)
- Smoothing of the skin and reduction of the water-related cellulite component/edematous through reducing stasis and improving fluid dynamics
- Improvement of exercise tolerance and faster recovery in post-traumatic or overload-related swellings (in practice: less "pulling," fewer movement restrictions)
- Strengthening of vessel walls and reduction of the tendency for capillaries to break in therapies tailored to vascular issues (Body Mix)
In summary: the goal is not only "less water," but a better functioning lymphatic system and better-nourished tissues. This is what provides an effect that lasts longer than just until the evening.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Edema has many causes, so safety begins with qualification. Below I list the standard contraindications for technological and drainage therapies — the final decision always depends on the method and the patient's condition.
- active cancer or the period directly after oncological treatment (without the consent of the attending physician)
- deep vein thrombosis, recent embolic incidents, suspicion of thrombosis
- decompensated heart failure, severe cardio-respiratory disorders
- acute infections, fever, active systemic inflammatory conditions
- severe renal failure (especially in strongly draining therapies)
- pregnancy (depending on the area and method; individual qualification)
- skin diseases at the treatment site (active lesions, infections, epidermal damage)
If edema is a symptom of a systemic disease, therapy in the clinic makes sense only as support, not as a "treatment of the cause." This is why qualification and protocol selection are our standard, not an addition.
POST-OPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS
What we do in the office, the body must "deliver" in the following hours and days. Therefore, simple recommendations can determine whether the effect will be lasting or will disappear after the first salty meal.
- hydration: regular drinking of water throughout the day (not "all at once in the evening", but systematically)
- movement: daily walking or light activity to improve calf muscle pump
- avoiding prolonged immobility: breaks during sitting/standing work, simple foot and calf exercises
- diet and sodium: limiting the addition of salt, especially with water retention and evening swelling
- series plan: in chronic swelling, a single visit is usually just a relief, not a therapy
If you want a "permanent" effect, you need to give tissues time to rebuild — and consistency in the series. There is no clever shortcut around this.
