One of the problems occurring around the eyes is the formation of tear troughs - a characteristic depression located between the inner corner of the eye and the cheek. Its line runs obliquely, exactly like tears flow. It most often appears with aging, but also affects young people. The visible tear troughs make the face look tired, gray, and unhealthy.
The direct causes of tear troughs are mature age and decreased production of elastin and collagen. The skin around the eyes is delicate, prone to aging, and external factors. As we age, the skin becomes saggy, the fat tissue that fills the area under the eyelid skin diminishes, the muscles become flaccid, and our eye sockets begin to sink. This process mainly affects individuals over the age of 40, although it is often observed in young women and men. This is because the formation of tear troughs is also influenced by exposure to sunlight, unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, and alcohol consumption.
In the case of young individuals, tear troughs are usually caused by genetic factors, such as facial bone structure or inherited metabolic disorders. Tear troughs also appear in individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time.
Filling the tear trough results in a rested and rejuvenated face, with the effect visible immediately after the procedure. Injected hyaluronic acid fills the subcutaneous tissue from the inside, reducing the skin indentations. Hyaluronic acid also has the ability to retain water, moisturizing the skin and giving it a fresh and firm appearance. The treatment allows for simultaneous lightening of shadows created by the tear trough.
The achieved effect depends on the depth of the tear trough and the age of the patient. The younger the patient, the better the expected effect. In older individuals with more prominent tear troughs, a satisfactory effect is achieved after the second treatment, which should be performed 4-6 weeks after the previous one. The satisfying results last for approximately 12 months, and after the product is absorbed, wrinkles are shallower than before the procedure.
