Injection lipolysis / Intralipotherapy

Injection lipolysis (Intralipotherapy) is a non-surgical method of removing fat in a specific area of the body. It allows the removal of excess fatty tissue in places where it is difficult to get rid of it through diet or physical activity. It is a perfect option for patients who want to shape their figure. Injection lipolysis allows the dissolution of fat cell membranes, which causes them to be degraded and then transported to the liver and later excreted by the kidneys.

The preparation is injected directly into the area of excess body fat. This preparation cannot be injected in an excessive amount, so the treatment must be done in stages. The amount of preparation used during one treatment is different and depends primarily on the amount of fatty tissue in the area of treatment and the patient's expectations. Prior the procedure, doctor discuss with patient the amount of preparation necessary for the treatment.

When to use

Lipolysis cannot be done on all the parts of the body. Treatments is usually performed in the areas of:

  • double chin (jaw contouring),
  • neck,
  • upper limbs, arms around triceps,
  • stomach and abdomen,
  • hips "love handles",
  • hips, "breeches",
  • under buttocks,
  • inner side of thighs,
  • inner side of the knees,
  • folds on the back,
  • male gynecomastia,
  • lipomas,

Number and frequency of treatments

Most often it is necessary to make from 2 to 6 treatments every 3-6 weeks. 3 weeks after each treatment u can observe a significant reduction in body fat. Most patients are satisfied with the results after 2-3 treatments.

Contraindications to perform lipolysis are: a liver diseases, cardiac-based diseases, diabetes, blood clotting disorders and skin diseases. Treatment is not performed on pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Active substances used in lipolysis treatment:

  • Phosphatidylcholine
Patricia Rittes, a French doctor of dermatology, in 1995 used the injection lipolysis for the first time, based on the assumption that excess fat can be dissolved by injection. Dr. Rittes developed a method of combating excessive body fat by injecting her phosphatidylcholine (liquid lecithin) and performed treatments in more than eight thousand patients - each time obtaining amazing results. This preparation has already been used in medicine, mainly for protecting the liver and reducing fat content in the blood. Phosphatidylcholine has been used in thousands of treatments and has never caused any serious side effects. So far, there are no cases of phosphatidylcholine overdose. The procedure was considered completely safe based on a 2002 study conducted by the European Group of Scientific-Research Network-Lypolisis.
Phosphatidylcholine easily passes through cell membranes into fat cells, which leads to the disruption of their structure and breakdown of triglycerides. Then the substance is transported to the liver, where fats are broken down, and are excreted from the body.
  • Aqualyx
Also known as the "Motolese solution" or "M solution" is a new formulation for injection, approved as a medical device. It does not include phosphatidylcholine. Mandatory technique of injecting Aqualyx - intralipotherapy technique - is the safest and completely painless way of performing the treatment. It involves injecting areas of excess fatty tissue with a special needle - with just one or two places of injection - that means, that during the procedure, patient is stung by needle only 2 - 4 times. This eliminates the risk of complications, which often occurs with other techniques of performing "lipolysis" treatments.
